Well, do you need training or mentorship for internet marketing?
In theory, the answer is no. The reality, however, isn’t quite as simple as that…
1. If you decide you want to teach yourself about marketing online, this is what you should expect:
a. Incomplete information – the real professional internet marketers won’t just give you all the information. Those who want to sell you something will give you a part of it, and you have to pay for the rest. Those who don’t teach, simply keep their knowledge to themselves.
As such, the bits and pieces you can collect from across the web will be incomplete. The problem is that you won’t know which parts are missing – and you’ll have to gather a substantial amount of knowledge before you will be able to figure out what’s missing – never mind figure out how to do it.
b. Old and outdated information – the internet never forgets. As such, if you dig long and hard enough for information, you are bound to come across stuff that is old and outdated. Unfortunately, many bloggers don’t add the publishing date to their posts, so initially you’ll have no idea whether the information is current or not.
c. Misinformation – the internet marketing arena is full of “wannabe’s”. Personally I would guess that most of the online marketing coaches out there have never sold anything else besides internet marketing products. Pretty much like many life coaches never had any success at anything besides life coaching… Unfortunately for you, that means that they are totally out of touch with reality when it comes to niche marketing.
In addition to that, many of those people really have no clue what they’re doing – because they have been taught by people who don’t know what they’re doing.
While you are still trying to figure things out, you lack the ability to identify (and ignore) incorrect information. Sadly, most people who take the self-taught route end up trying to implement useless information, and fail miserably. From there they either give up, or go back to the drawing board.
d. Overwhelm – there is quite a bit to learn when it comes to internet marketing…
But when you want to try and figure it out among the gazillion blogs and videos on the internet, you have to sift through truckloads of information – literally. Between the misinformation, the incomplete information, and the outdated information, it usually takes a few years to figure things out on your own.
Keep in mind that the more crowded the internet becomes, the more work it requires to sift through the information out there in order to distinguish useless from useful information.
2. On the other hand, if you decide to enrol in an internet marketing course, the picture changes dramatically:
a. You are taught only what you need to know – and in the sequence you need to know it. In other words, besides skipping the learning curve, you don’t need to try and figure out what goes where (in the sequence of steps in your project).
b. You learn as you do – which means that you acquire new skills and immediately put them into practice. There isn’t any guesswork (“let’s see if this will work…”), because you know that you will get results if you follow the steps correctly. As such, you project starts evolving immediately as you learn.
As you learn, you do. And as you do, you see the results.
c. A coach can help you to avoid the pitfalls – things that can basically destroy your business and/or your credibility, or set you back by months at a time.
d. You reach the point of profitability much sooner. By skipping the long, self-imposed learning curve, you can immediately start building a business that works. As such, you’ll see money coming in much sooner, and even despite the costs of your internet marketing training, you will be in profit much sooner than if you tried to figure it out for yourself.
In conclusion:
In essence, there are only two facts you need to consider when you ask yourself whether you should pay someone else to teach you internet marketing:
a. Those who try to figure it out for themselves either fail miserably and give up, or they spend years to figure it all out.
b. Once you know what to do (whether you were taught or figured it out yourself), it takes the same amount of time to start making money…
Why would you want to wait?
